Kershaw County Planning Commission Expands Meeting Schedule to Focus on Comprehensive Plan
CAMDEN, SC – The Kershaw County Planning Commission is pleased to announce that Kershaw County Council has acknowledged and expressed support for the Commission’s decision to add an additional meeting each month dedicated exclusively to reviewing and refining the county’s Comprehensive Plan.
Beginning in March and continuing through August, the Planning Commission will hold a special meeting on the fourth Monday of each month in addition to its regularly scheduled meetings. These sessions will be solely focused on the Comprehensive Plan, ensuring that the document receives the thorough review and thoughtful consideration it deserves.
“The Comprehensive Plan is a guiding document that will shape Kershaw County’s growth and development for years to come,” said Ned T. Towell, Chairman of the Planning Commission. “By adding these extra meetings, we are committing the time and attention necessary to fully evaluate the plan, address public concerns, and ensure it reflects the best path forward for our county.”
The decision to expand the meeting schedule is driven by several key factors:
Thorough Review: The Comprehensive Plan is a detailed and far-reaching document, and additional time allows for careful evaluation of its recommendations regarding land use, economic development, infrastructure, and conservation.
Public Engagement: With added meetings, more opportunities will be available for residents, businesses, and community stakeholders to provide input and share their perspectives.
Balanced Growth: The Commission is committed to ensuring that the final plan balances the county’s agricultural, equestrian, residential, and business interests while preserving the unique character of Kershaw County.
The goal of the Planning Commission is to complete its review and submit a final revised draft of the Comprehensive Plan to Kershaw County Council by September 9, 2025, for first reading.
Public participation remains a vital part of this process. Residents are encouraged to attend meetings, provide feedback, and stay engaged as the Commission works toward finalizing a plan that will serve as a responsible, forward-thinking blueprint for Kershaw County’s future.
